The brilliant new single from Bristol alt-indie darlings Adult Leisure perfectly captures a top-down, wind-in-the-hair joyride which, in this case, is probably one heading north on the M5.
Bristol guitar bands have a habit of being a bit shouty – that’s part of why the likes of IDLES, Grandmas House and Heavy Lungs are so terribly good – but here Adult Leisure are smooth like a cheeky glass of rosé, soaring on 80s-style synth lines and jangly guitars with undeniably Mancunian roots.
‘Borderline’ was inspired by a break-up but is one hell of a silver lining, its downright anthemic chorus elevated by Neil Scott’s ear-grabbing vocals and a rush of energy comparable to Sam Fender – this is the band’s first new release of 2024 and good lord we hope there’s more to come.

"Dave had sent through a Police-y style demo back last April (2023) and we knew we wanted this to be the next release after our second EP, it felt like a continuation of our sound.
Borderline was inspired by the break-up of a long term relationship around that time for Neil and the feeling of hindsight in the months following it. We always try to write from a personal perspective, however these feelings are so common amongst people that there's a strange balance of the situation being incredibly personal yet not alone. We allowed ourselves more time in the recording process to try new things and develop our sound, and with thanks to our producer Ollie, we feel it's sonically our best song to date." Adult Leisure.
